Saw Whet Owl “Rocky” Woodcarving
Secret Christmas Tree Angel Topper
While setting up the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree in 2020, workers found an unexpected present. Tucked into the base of the massive spruce tree, was a Saw Whet Owl. The Owl was appropriately named “Rocky”.
Carved out of Tupelo Wood, Painted with Acrylics, Glass Eyes.
“Not a creature was stirring,
not even a mouse;”
They say “The devil is in the details” or should I say that the Mouse is in the details? If you look very closely you can see the whiskers on the mouse.
This carving has an unexpected feature as well, the Owl can be removed from it’s base and used as a Christmas tree topper. The base to be used the rest of the year is a unique piece of Driftwood & Manzanita base with a mouse hiding just below the Owl.
I did a step by step demonstration of Carving this Saw Whet Owl in a private Facebook Live group.
I have also downloaded all these Facebook Live videos in alpha numeric order and these are available for purchase
on a thumb drive. If you want to carve along with this project without searching all of Facebook to find the next video.
