Northern Sentry – Boreal Owl Woodcarving
The Guardian of the Northern Forests
A rather mysterious owl of dense northern woodlands.
Slightly larger than the Saw-whet Owl. This bright-eyed, square faced owl sits and waits on a perch for small mammals and birds before gliding down talons first to grab it. Sometimes hunts small rodents around your birdfeeders.
Rare and seldom seen, this Owl is a resident of the mountain ranges of Northwestern United States & most of Canada, nesting in forest at the highest elevations. Occasionally there are winter invasions in the Northeast which some photographers call Owl season. One of the nice things about Winter. They roost quietly in a new site each day, so they’re a little like finding a needle in a haystack.
The Boreal Owl is mounted on a Manzanita Root as a wallhanging.
