Flying “Attacking” Great Horned Owl Woodcarving
I like to think this is the last thing a poor little mouse sees in this world.
Fantastic one of a kind carving of a Great Horned Owl in flight Carved out of Bass Wood, Painted with Acrylics, Glass Eyes.
Inspiration
Sculpture by Jules Moigniez (France) in the late 1800’s.
And a couple of great carving books Championship Carving: Best in World 1985 and 1986 which has a carving of a Great Horned Owl by Ernie Muehlmatt on the cover & Songbird Carving with Ernie Muehlmatt where he shows how he carved his Great Horned Owl.
This carving has been over twenty years in the making. Started it a while ago been waiting for the confidence to finish it in a style that would do it justice. This is what I wanted to do when I started this carving.
